Butternut Squash and Apple Soup

This is one of my favorites both because it tastes great and because it was my first soup creation using baby food. And you may not want to tell folks right off how you got your butternut squash puree--they’ll never guess. (And if you’re apprehensive yourself, read the label--nothing but squash and a little water in that jar.)

Five 4-ounce jars butternut squash baby food
One 4-ounce jar sweet potato baby food
     One 15-ounce can chicken broth
     1/2 cup applesauce (unsweetened)
     3/4 teaspoon onion powder
     1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper (white or black)

Combine squash through pepper in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat, stirring while you do. You may also heat it in a microwave but I just find a pan tastes better. When soup is beginning to boil or steam, remove from the heat to serve.
